Module
One
Aromatherapy and Essential Oils This module will cover the fundamentals of aromatherapy, including its history and modern applications. The student will gain an understanding of holism as it is applied to aromatherapy, the basics of plant biology, extraction techniques for essential oils, and the important differences between species and chemotypes. the basics of nomenclature and qualitative analysis will be covered. Students will learn the taxonomy, safety data and therapeutic benefits of 25 essential oils.
Module Two
The Chemistry of Essential Oils
A study of organic chemistry will give each student an understanding of
the therapeutic porperties of essential oils. Students will learn basic
pathology in order to effectively blend oils for common ailments and specific
treatments. Twenty-five essential oils covered.
Module Three
The Integumentary System
Histology of the skin, including pathology, safety data, methods of application,
herbal infusions, base oils, delivery systems, hydrolats and 10 essential
oils to be covered in depth. Dynamic blending techniques. Skincare consultations.
Practicum for facials and other skincare applications.
Module Four
The Psychology of Essential Oils
Students will develop an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of
olfaction as it relates to the nervous, immune and endocrine systems.
They will also learn basic consultation for emotion-based blending derived
from client information. ten more essential oils will be covered in depth.
Module Five
The Energetics of Aromatherapy
In this module, students will learn about essential oils as used in Traditional
Chinese Medicine, including the five-element theory and its application
in client diagnosis. Facial, pulse and tongue diagnosis will be covered
as well as 10 essential oils used in TCM.
Module Six
The Practice of Aromatherapy
Students will learn the business of aromatherapy including treatment-plan
development, keeping client files, ethics, marketing and communication
skills. Students will also learn how to integrate aromatherapy into existing
practices such as massage therapy and reflexology. Students will continue
practising consultations and learn about 10 more essential oils.
Module Seven
Integrating Aromatic Medicine into Home and Traditional Healthcare Settings
I.
Students will learn how to integrate aromatic medicine in home and traditional
healthcare settings. We will explore the respiratory, digestive and urinary
systems, along with common ailments. Essential oils will be considered
in relation to each system. Students will learn how to create unique remedies
for common ailments.
Module Eight
Integrating Aromatic Medicine into Home and Traditional Healthcare Settings
II Students will continue to learn how to integrate aromatic medicine into home and traditional healthcare settings. We will explore the reproductive, circulatory and musculoskeletal systems, along with common ailments. Essential oils will be considered in relation to each system.
